Our latest review for the Champagne Billecart - Salmon 1998 Cuvee Nicolas Francois Billecart, from Huon Hooke Sydney Morning Herald “Good living” last Tuesday 5th September 2011.
Spring has arrived and it's a great time to pop open these wines.
Champagne Billecart Salmon Brut N.V The Brut Réserve is a light, fine and harmonious champagne.
Its blend is made with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier from
three different years, sourced from the best sites in the Champagne
region. A full and accurate flavour combined with a fine freshness
and a rich bouquet bear witness to the ageing of this cuvée in the
House’s traditional cellars.
The Lane Vineyard Blanc de Blanc “Lois”
A blend of three clones of Chardonnay that are all shoot
thinned early in the season to enhance vine balance, even ripening and
focus flavour concentration. Cool south facing sites provide fresh
acidity through moderate growing conditions out of the hot sun.
Woodstock Grenache Rose
Bright
crimson in colour, this wine is bursting with luscious summer ber-ries
on the nose and palate. Ripe strawberries, fresh raspberries, turkish
delight, rosewater and fairy floss all feature. It’s natural acidity and
sweetness is balanced, its finish is clean and crisp and utterly
morish!
Balgownie Premium Sparkling Rose N.V
Bright salmon pink
in colour, this sparkling Rosé has enticing aromas of fresh
strawberries. A delicate palate of fresh summer fruits follows,
accompanied by a fine mousse and lovely soft finish.
Balgownie Premium Sparkling Brut N.V
Bright
& lifted aroma of citrus and new seasons apples with hints of guava
and passionfruit. Lovely fine bead and an elegant crisp finish.
Seville Estate's Dylan McMahon has been nominated for 2011 Young Gun's wine maker of the year.
When Dr Peter Mc Mahon planted the first vines at Seville Estate in 1972, it marked the rebirth of the Yarra Valley as a premium wine region. By the end of the decade Dr McMahon and his wife Margaret, along with producers such as Mount Mary, Yeringberg, Yarra Yering, St Huberts and the like were fashioning wines that served to re-establish the lofty reputation the Yarra Valley had enjoyed in the 19th century.
From its first vintage,
Seville Estate quickly established itself as one of the Yarra Valley's
finest producers. Surprisingly in a region more renowned for its red
wines produced from Cabernet and Pinot Noir, it was the Seville Estate
Shiraz that received the most attention, quickly becoming one of
Victoria's most sought after wines. These wines that have been called
"one of Victoria's best kept secrets" are now some of the most stylish
on the market, with back vintage tastings showing their superb ageing
capacity.
A new generation of the
McMahon family has also become involved in Seville Estate. Peter and
Margaret's grandson, Dylan McMahon is now the winemaker, following the
passion ignited a generation before. The Seville "style" focuses on
elegance and finesse, while showing fantastic complexity and structure.
They are cool climate classics that stay true to the vineyard and
vintage influences.
Today 35 years after Peter and Margaret started the dream; Seville Estate enters its third phase.
Graham
and Margaret Van Der Meulen purchased the property in December 2005.
They are fully hands-on in the vineyard, winery, and cellar door and
plan to continue Seville's long-established record of producing
consistently high quality wines.
Situated on a ridge of red
volcanic soil overlooking the Upper Yarra Valley - hidden from the
well-trodden tracks of the mainstream, the soils at Seville Estate are
extremely fertile red to grey volcanic, over a clay base.
